Man, 19, arrested for allegedly abducting 14-year-old minor

CEBU, Philippines - A 19-year-old man was arrested last Wednesday afternoon for allegedly kidnapping and having sex with a 14-year-old girl in Barangay Tingub, Mandaue City.

Elements of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group-7 arrested Mike Sumaylo in an entrapment operation around 2:30 p.m. last Wednesday after allegedly kidnapping the girls last June 25 outside her school in Barangay Zapatera.

The two reportedly got acquainted through text messaging, both were reportedly members of a club for youths.

It was only last June 29 when the parents of the girl sought the help of a radio station that later referred them to the CIDG.

The CIDG conducted an entrapment operation and rescued the girl at the suspect’s house in Mandaue City after they got his address from one of his friends.

But the suspect, in an interview, denied kidnapping the girl, who he said, has been his girlfriend for a month now.

He further narrated that last June 25, he met the girl in a mall that was the club’s hangout area.

The victim, he alleged, offered to go with him to his house.

The following morning, he went with the girl outside to supposedly send her home but the girl later offered to return to his house, afraid that her parents might scold her.

The suspect admitted having sex with the girl, but claimed that both of them consented to it as they were in a relationship.

He also denied preventing the girl from talking with her parents over the phone.

CIDG-7 chief Senior Supt. Jose Pante said they submitted the girl to an examination at the Pink Room of the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center.

The CIDG-7 chief further said that they will file a case of kidnapping against the suspect and rape charges as well if medical results prove it.

A certain Ronron Valdez and Mark Dela Calzada are also being sought in connection with the alleged kidnapping.  (FREEMAN)
