Fete de la Musique Cebu

CEBU, Philippines — Alliance Francaise de Cebu and the Cebu Literary Festival bring the Spoken Word and Open Mic Stage on Saturday, June 23, from 5 to 7:30 p.m. as part of the Fete de la Musique Cebu, at the La Vie Parisienne on Gorordo Avenue.

Fete de la Musique was launched in France in 1982 by then-French Minister of Culture Jack Lang, with the goal of bringing music out into the streets, inviting all those who could play an instrument or carry a tune to perform. Completely different from a typical music festival, Fete de la Musique is open to anyone who wants to take part. Every kind of musician – young and old, amateur and professional, of every musical persuasion – pours onto streets, parks, plazas, and porches to share their music with friends, neighbors, and strangers. All of it is free and open to the public.

Today, Fete de la Musique is celebrated in more than 800 cities around the world. It is the world’s largest annual music event, and has expanded to include spoken word, the latest subculture crossing over into the mainstream in performing arts.

The event in Cebu will feature poets Francis Terrado, Juanita Romualdez, and Bea Angan, with singer-songwriters Cristeen Salazar, Julia Quijano, Porter Novak, John Veantur, and The Vast.  Admission is free.
