Glitterati 5: Style Flux

The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - The annual style extravaganza is back - "Glitterati 5: Style Flux" takes place on September 30, at 6:00 p.m., at the Northwing Atrium of SM City Cebu. Obviously, Glitterati is now on its fifth year. And the fashion event has become some kind of a rite of passage for young local personalities.

As part of its tradition, Glitterati will feature SM City Cebu's best loved brands worn by Cebu's top models. Participating brands include Espada, Esprit, Forever 21, Loalde, Mango, Promod, Terranova, and the much-anticipated Uniqlo.

This time around, Glitterati is featuring the creations of an all-female lineup of Cebu's most promising fashion designers - Mia Arcenas, Joyce Maw, and Celine Borromeo. This year's theme centers on neutrals with a contemporary twist, and the fast-rising designers are showcasing their original designs in a predominantly black and white color palette.

Mia Arcenas has a degree in Apparel Manufacturing Management from the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising in Los Angeles, California, where she graduated summa cum laude. She is now Vice President and Creative Director of the family business, Ferimar, Inc., a position she got upon moving back to Cebu in 2010. The company is a pioneer exporter of handbags and fashion accessories for top brands all over Europe, the U.S., Australia, and Japan. In 2013, Mia established her own namesake brand and created a resort wear line of clothing and fashion accessories for the modern-day, fashionable woman.

Celine Borromeo is a Bachelor of Fine Arts graduate, major in Fashion Design, from the University of San Carlos.  She has had proven her knack for fashion; in fact, upon graduation in 2014 she received special recognitions for Best in Sewing & Construction and Best in Fashion Illustration, as well as a gold award for Best Thesis. She's really come a long way from her life as a fashion student, as she was one of the top 3 finalists in the most recent season of the "Project Runway Philippines" reality TV show.

Joyce Maw was also a contestant of "Project Runway Philippines," in the show's Season 4. Her quirky style made her reach the Top 6 in the competition. She graduated magna cum laude in Fashion Design from the University of San Carlos, in 2013, also placing 3rd in Best Thesis. Joyce was also awarded Best Fun Wear Designer in this year's Miss Cebu pageant.

Cebu's young personalities including Belle Alvarez, Gabi Baljak, Sofia Baroud, Nicole Borromeo, Sabrina Borromeo, Gabriella Carballo, Mitch Cui, Mari Gandionco, Sophia Gandionco, Ariel Gayatin, Danielle Gayatin, Marie Hussenet, Kate Lim, Kendrick Lim, Luis Monsanto, and Yasmine Sarlak are modeling in the trio's fresh display of innovation and design.
