Arts council of Cebu marks 50 years

PEOPLE PLACES - Flor S. YNCLINO -

Marco Polo Plaza Hotel’s Ballroom was the elegant setting of the Arts Council of Cebu’s 50th anniversary. No less than the country’s top ballerina, Liza Macuja Elizalde, caused ooh and aah from the audience with her dexterity in performing the evening’s finale. She was akin to a bird floating in midair without exerting effort. She delivered the best ever performance, plus the members of Ballet Manila who showed their talents superbly.

Easily discernible were the Arts Council’s officers who were dressed to the nines – in their beautiful and elegant gowns. In happy attendance was the founder and charter president – Fe Sala Villarica. In the short program presented, it made mention of past presidents of the Arts Council of Cebu – Consul Jaime Picornell, who made a short but relevant speech (I was assistant treasurer during his term in the 70s), the late Pacing Cabahug, Loring Victorino, the effervescent Gloria Escaño, then Maia Franco (when it became a foundation) and until this day, the indefatigable Petite Garcia.

Our heartfelt thanks to events chair Dr. Vivina Chiu Yrastorza and Marco Polo GM Hans Hauri for the accommodation accorded us – members of the Fourth Estate.

Meanwhile, Turning Point School of Classical Ballet and Music Center for Classical Dance had a very successful presentation of Classic and Symphony 2 at the Benedicto College Artist Hall, recently.

Artistic Directors Solita S. Saldaña and daughter Mylene Saldaña were very proud of the excellent performances of their students during the presentation. Congratulations to Sol and Mylene for a job well done!
