Black With A Vengeance...

- Dexter Alazas -
...the darkness of the night, a full moon on the rise, and a mysterious woman in black is all it takes to get all glammed up this hallows eve...

Black is definitely back with a vengeance. From Paris to Milan, designer runways earlier this fall are all lined up with little black dresses, long and voluminous gowns that magically spell glamour. It's always safe to wear a classic, especially if we talk about color, and black says it all. You can wear it as it is, or mix it with the other side of darkness, that is white, and your ready to make a statement. New York artist Kara Walker takes murals on the streets to a higher level when she raised eyebrows with her delightfully black-and-white silhouettes.

Black and white have always been my favorite color contrasts I suppose, if you call it color. I thought that it has always been my signature. Even in the clothes I wear, I make it a point to get dressed in black and white, from shoes to sandals, clutch to tote bags, a shirt or pants, it becomes my daily uniform. I believe it signifies my true nature, being one, and the other at the same time.

My personal style is also reflected in the clothes I make. Whether a pret-a-porter line, a fashion editorial for models photo shoot, and or a client's made-to-measure order for parties and other special occasions, a black and white confection always make my day. Although colors in different shades and hues have been very popular lately, especially on weddings and special gatherings, black, or white still remains a standout! A must have in one's closet. Here's a hint at how this color combination can work for you this Halloween.

GOTH DOLL

Think Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz, how adorably pretty Judy Garland was, and how she would have looked in black. On this page, Baby doll dress in black and white chantilly lace layered down to the knees. A pink velvet ribbon clinches the empire, creating a fuller bodice giving it a more childlike silhouette. Anyone can get away with it though, nowadays.

TWISTED TWENTIES

The roaring twenties with a twist. On its early years of hi fashion, Vogue always described Eve Curie as always wearing black, silently in good taste. Back then Schiaparelli's gowns always made her exquisitely beautiful. This time, Art deco inspired black column dress in Swiss lace makes a comeback. The bold embroidered floral patterns on the hemline in white silk threads makes a refreshing accent.

MOON ET MODE

The stillness of the night breaks its silence as the full moon comes in full circle. A look back at one of the most horrifying movies of the sixties, Psycho. Dressed in white, the lady on the loose wears a long and slinky bias number, with black satin bolero . She walks the nighttime, a misery in mystery, waiting to be solved, like our favorite Nancy Drew and Hardy Boys pocketbook stories.

MANHUNT-ED

The villain or the victim. On the lookout for men's fashion. A lighter shade of black, gray is a better alternative for the modern man. Gunmetal gray jacket in silk taffeta with stainless steel spangles on the neckline.

Here's a look at Halloween with a different angle, top lens man Slow Shot Max photographs two of Cebu's most promising faces in fashion. Ghea and Aref, both from A.D.Models Phils. play hunter and the hunted, wearing this occasion's color of the moment, Black. Styled by Chuiqs Abellanosa of Ad:Lib Style Concepts. Shot on location at Moon Café.
