Garie Concepcion hopes to make own mark

- Ricky L. Calderon - The Freeman

Even if they have different mothers, Gabrielle “Garie” Concepcion says she is close to her half-siblings KC and Cloie.

Garie is the daughter of Gabby Concepcion to businesswoman-politician Grace Ibuna while KC is the daughter of Sharon and Gabby. Cloie is Gabby’s daughter with his second wife Jenny Syquia.

Since Garie has finished her studies in the US, she now wants to try her luck in showbiz. She is aware that she can’t help but be compared to KC and be further scrutinized for being the daughter of a famous actor.

“I really can’t help but be compared to my Ate KC and I will surely be always associated with my dad. But I hope that I will be given the chance to be known by the public for my talent, not because I am the daughter of my dad or that KC is my half-sister,” said Garie at her recent contract signing with Warner Music where she is set to record an album.

While she has yet to meet Sharon, she expressed interest to meet the mom of her half-sister. “I also would want to meet the families of my sisters,” she said.

Garie admits that her parents have remained friends even if they had long been separated from each other. While she may not always get to meet her dad, they spend time talking on the phone very often.

Billy Crawford just started his stint as host of the new ABS-CBN game show “Celebrity Playtime,” but he had to say goodbye to the fun-filled weekend show.

He will no longer host “Celebrity Playtime” as it moves to a new time slot beginning tomorrow.

In a statement, Kane Ochoa, head of ABS-CBN’s Integrated Corporate Communications said that the decision was both made by Billy’s management ALV Talents Circuit and the station.

Luis Manzano will take over the hosting duties.

Here is ABS-CBN’s full statement. “On November 14, ABS-CBN will launch its newest reality dance competition ‘Dance Kids,’ which will be aired Saturdays at 6:15 p.m. and Sundays at 6 p.m. In line with this new program launch, ‘Celebrity Playtime’ will be aired at 10:30 p.m. every Saturday after ‘Your Face Sounds Familiar.’”

“Every Filipino family will enjoy ‘Dance Kids’ and the back-to-back fun brought by the celebrity transformations in ‘Your Face Sounds Familiar’ and the exciting party games in ‘Celebrity Playtime.’”

“Following these programming changes, ABS-CBN and Billy Crawford’s management ALV Talent Circuit Inc. have decided for Billy to relinquish his hosting job in ‘Celebrity Playtime’ to Luis Manzano. Billy would love to continue hosting the show but unfortunately, he can’t be seen in two consecutively airing programs.

“ABS-CBN thanks Billy for his dedication to ‘Celebrity Playtime.’ He remains as one of the most respected hosts of the network, and his fans can still watch him in ‘Your Face Sounds Familiar’ on weekends and ‘It’s Showtime’ from Mondays to Saturdays.”

Congratulations to actress and TV host Gladys Reyes. Her talk show “Moments” aired on Net 25 is marking its 7th anniversary this month.

This Saturday’s episode is already part of the show’s anniversary offering. Titled “Moments in US,” the episode is the one that was shot by Gladys and her husband Christopher Roxas during their recent trip to the US. The part two of the US episode will be shown next Saturday.

We are happy for Gladys whose career has really picked up. She won an Urian Best Supporting Actress for “Magkakabaung” last June. It was her very first Urian nomination and she was happy to have won.

She is part of the new GMA serye “Little Nanay” where she gets to pit her acting wares with Superstar Ms. Nora Aunor and multi-awarded actor-director Mr. Eddie Garcia, two performers whom she really admire.

Gladys is thankful to the Lord for the numerous blessings coming her way. Meanwhile, she is patiently waiting for a new indie film project.

Ms. Baby Go, the hardworking producer of BG Films International, was the guest speaker at the opening of the photo and painting exhibit held at the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) last Monday, November 9.

The lady producer said she admires the work of the men and women of NBI who are tasked to help investigate and help solve many criminal cases in the country.

Madam Baby is supporting NBI, in the same manner that she supports the film industry by doing advocacy films. “I want to do movies that are meaningful and espouses advocacies,” she said.

She is not in the business of producing movies just to earn money but also to provide jobs. And even if she earns only a little, as their capital is returned plus a little profit, she immediately uses this to bankroll the next project of BG Films International.

“Kasi once bumalik ang puhunan, pwede na kaming mag-start uli sa bagong project,” added the lady producer who idolizes Mother Lily Monteverde of Regal Entertainment, one of the most successful film production outfits in the country.

Among the forthcoming movies of BG Productions is “Laut” (directed by Louie Ignacio) who also directed “Child Haus,” which will have a premiere showing on November 15. It is also the official selection at the Children Section of Dhaka International Film Festival.

Jackie Lou Blanco and Mike “Pekto”  Nacua are the featured guests in tonight’s episode of “Bubble Gang.” Some of the segments to watch out for are buking sa office gags, tsugi or chorva (the questions asked are about BG anniversary), Atlit (portion of Diego), and a host gives relationship tips on how not to get caught if cheating on your wife or husband.
