Cebu's HipHop royalty goes global

CEBU, Philippines - After being nominated for 5 categories, Hi-c & Dice and k9 Mobbstarr bagged two awards at the Bite My Music Global Awards.

Bite My Music Global Awards was created to recognize independent artists. “BMM looks into different regions around the world and honors musicians from all parts of the world,” described Siva Zaphod Chandran, awards founder and COO of its organizing groups: Bite Media/Saintz & Sinnerz.

“The criteria set for the global judges is based on creativity, originality and overall entertainment value. The higher the originality and creativity, the higher the scores,” Chandran explained with regards on how the winners were chosen. “Global judges (comprising international music directors, producers, media, celebrities and past grammy winners) make up 70% of the total scores, while only 30% was open for online voting. In total we had more than 30,000 registered voters.”

Other independent artist from the Philippines, namely UP DARMA Down & Such, were also nominated in different categories. Indie artists from our country were described to be blessed with incredible talent and diversity and deserve to make it big on the global stage.

Hi-c & Dice and k9 Mobbstarr was nominated for Best Hip-Hop Act, Best Pop/RnB act and Best Female Act. Their song ‘Heartbreaker’ also got nominated for Best Dance/Electronica song and Best Music Video. They were awarded Best Dance/Electronica song (Silver) and Best Music Video (Bronze).

“They are the complete package - sexy, creative, talented, bold and excellent marketeers.” Mr. Chandran described Cebu’s Hiphop royalty. “They don’t only make good music but are always experimenting with different genres. On a personal level, we are also thankful to them when they flew in last year for our indie concert to raise funds for victims of the tsunami in Japan and did not ask for any performance token or payment. That to us is a mark of a greatness, and we believe the only way is up for them.”

As for the other independent artists, Mr. Chandran encourages them to work more and collaborate with other artists, not only locally but as well with other Asian acts. “Keep experimenting, don’t follow mainstream music from USA, fuse their music with more Asian rhythm and beats, go for the jugular and keep co-creating with other artists.”
