GSM executive to bare RP as a vibrant mobile market

-

CEBU, Philippines - Matters regarding the growing market of mobile phones in the Philippines and its place worldwide will be discussed as the senior director for GSM Association will be in the Philippines to discuss more issues regarding the increasing number of mobile users worldwide.

Jaikishan Rajaraman, Senior Director, Services at the GSM Association, the global industry body representing the interests of nearly 800 mobile operators worldwide, will be in Manila next week and will be meeting members of the media as one of his itinerary.

Rajaraman will be discussing the revenue potential of the technology for mobile operators and its potential impact on the Filipino economy as a whole considering the aid it would give to the affected economy due to the crisis.

The Philippines is reportedly “a vibrant mobile market with more than 64 million GSM subscribers. Its number of mobile connections continues to grow at a rate of 36% over the next three months, with 77,000 new connections being added every month.”

However, it has been said that the Philippines is still not as active compared to other countries in Asia in terms of its Mobile Broadband adoption as the Philippines remain a voice and SMS-centric market despite it having 3G licenses.

Rajaraman would also be discussing the benefits of Mobile Broadband and what it could offer for the subscribers in the country as well as the growth of HSPDA Mobile Broadband technology and how it is being benefited by consumers across the rest of Asia and globally.

Rajaraman would also be the resource speaker during the Philippines Telecoms International Summit aside from the lead guest during the press briefing on November 6 at the The Peninsula, Makati City.

GSMA represents the worldwide mobile communications industry in more than 219 countries where over 200 companies are represented from handset makers, software companies, equipment providers, Internet companies, and media and entertainment organizations. The company is aimed on innovating and creating new opportunities for its members all with the goal to drive the growth of the mobile communications industry.— AJ de la Torre
