Globe Telecom provides TaoPo.org with ICT tools for active citizenship

-

MANILA, Philippines - Globe Telecom recently inked a memorandum of agreement (MOA) with TaoPo.org to strengthen its support for a shared advocacy for good governance.

TaoPo.org is an online portal that empowers Filipinos to become “changeneers” and utilize interactive tools and social media to promote accountability and active citizenry by allowing readers to articulate their experiences and post solutions to governance-related issues.

TaoPo.org also has a mobile application on the Android platform allowing citizens to upload photos and entries to the Tao Po website.

Through Globe Bridging Communities, the flagship corporate social responsibility arm of Globe, the telecom company will assist the TaoPo.org editorial team with information and communications technology (ICT) tools to support its advocacy via a one-year Globe Internet subscription plan, mobile phones, netbooks, and 500 Globe Bridging Communities (GBC) SIM cards.

“We are happy to support TaoPo.org in their call for good governance. We hope that by empowering them with ICT tools, we will help cultivate an environment where citizens take full accountability in making our own government work for us,” said Rob Nazal, Globe’s corporate social responsibility head.

Through the partnership, TaoPo.org will also develop social media activism modules designed for barangay officials, youth leaders and public high school students and will provide speakers for Globe-initiated workshops. Topics include using ICT for good governance and communicating through social media.

Vangge San Jose-Giorgetti, president of Changeneers Digital Corp., said, “TaoPo.org is all about realizing that change is in our hands. We are glad that Globe Telecom shares our passion for motivating Filipinos to take an active role in good governance.”

Other projects under the i-Lead program of Globe Bridging Communities which promote accountability, transparency, and participation in good governance include the “Sagot ka ni Kap!” program which provides barangays with their own mobile emergency hotline number and outfits barangay tanods with relevant equipment and personal accident insurance.
