Cemex extends support to National Greening Program

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Cemex Philippines has inked a memorandum of agreement with the municipality of Rizal, Laguna to express its commitment and support for the National Greening Program, through the company’s institutionalized forest rehabilitation initiative called “Isang Kalikasan, Isang Kinabukasan” (One Nature, One Future).

“Isang Kalikasan, Isang Kinabukasan is very descriptive of the way we perceive each key player’s role in bringing back the beauty of nature. Each of us must move as one,” said Edmundo Trazo, Cemex environment, health and safety manager.

A third of Mt. Cristobal is found in the quiet town of Rizal , Laguna, a province just lying beneath the foot of the mountain. Among the portions where Mt. Cristobal is geograhically divided, its share in Rizal, Laguna is in need of even more preservation efforts and existence of thriving trees. The agreement, set to be accomplished in three years, will provide enough period for the rehabilitation project.

â€œWe in Rizal are very thankful to have responsible companies like Cemex that are continuously giving back to nature,” said Mayor Antonino Aurelio.

The National Greening Program is handled by the Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR). MGB oversees the proper use and development of mineral resources in the country.

â€œCemex is very pleased to partner with the municipality of Rizal, Laguna; PENRO; and MGB because we have a common denominator—we all love nature. We are excited to work with them and maintain the momentum of this program,” said Solid Cement plant director Normandy Chan.

Cemex Philippines is the manufacturer of the only eco-labeled cement brands in the country including Island Portland Cement, Palitada King, Rizal Portland Super, Rizal Masonry Cement, APO Portland Premium, APO Portland Cement, APO Masonry Cement, and APO Pozzolan.
