Philtranco recently celebrated its 89th anniversary with the unveiling of the companys new business thrusts dubbed "The Three Points of Progress", in its bid to bolster Philtrancos position in the bus transportation industry.
These are: operational efficiency wherein Philtranco will invest in training its operations staff, acquire and maintain efficient buses and terminals and reinforce its safety and security group; customer care wherein the company will organize programs geared towards providing top-rate services to Philtranco passengers; and strengthened partnership with stakeholders, which aims to put premium on the companys relationship with its employees, stockholders, bus drivers and conductors.
"Being in the business for 89 years is more than a milestone for Philtranco. That number also stands as a symbol of the trust of our millions of passengers who have put their confidence in our service. They are our inspiration for our continued organizational and operational system innovations," Philtranco vice-chairman of the board and chief executive officer Jose EB. Antonio said.
In a simple ceremony held in its newly opened modern terminal in Pasay City, Antonio together with Philtranco president and chief operating officer Alejandro Yague, Jr., led the launching of the bus companys new Customer Care Programs aimed at providing quality service to its millions of passengers nationwide. These are SMS Inquiry Service, free Jollibee value meals to Gold Service passengers and Philtranco-Bankard credit card rides.
Included in the new roster of customer service programs is the bus companys newest route to the south. For the fun-loving but budget-conscious passengers, Philtranco has opened the Manila-Caticlan-Iloilo run for them to enjoy the famous Boracay via RO-RO (roll-on, roll-off) trip using ferries and buses.
According to Geraldo Togle, Philtrancos senior vice-president for operations, the opening of the Manila-Caticlan-Iloilo route was in support to President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyos Strong Republic National Hi-Way program to provide a better and more affordable route to Filipinos going to and coming from southern Philippines. The nautical highway connects Manila to Dapitan in Mindanao through RO-RO.
As the countrys first and oldest bus company, Philtranco also pioneered the first RO-RO transport service from Batangas to Iloilo last April 12.
According to Antonio, Philrancos 89th anniversary theme, "Kayo Po ang Aming Tagumpay" was also a fitting tribute to the loyal passengers as well as the dedicated employees for their steadfast support to Philtranco.
Four Philtranco bus drivers were honored during the celebration as they retired this year. Each was given a plaque of recognition for their dedicated service in the company, which ranged from 23 to 28 years.
"This anniversary also stands as a new beginning for the company. Philtranco in its 89 years of service continues to reinvent itself and innovates to meet the new challenges of the industry," said Yague Jr.
At present, Philtranco has the widest area of coverage in the Philippines and is the first bus company to provide transnational routes for land travel, connecting Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao. With 15 terminals nationwide, Philtranco carries more than 2.7 million passengers a year to more than 30 endpoints and 200 destinations throughout the country.
