Bogo to regulate funeral marches, wakes

Wakes and funeral marches will be strictly regulated in the city of Bogo as the committee on laws and ordinances in the Provincial Board recommended for its approval and implementation.

An ordinance, reviewed by Provincial Board member Peter John Calderon, has ironed out policies to regulate wakes and funeral marches in Bogo City.

The ordinance states the basic services to be provided, rules to be observed in using public roads, streets and thoroughfares during wakes and funeral marches; and fees to be collected.

Also, the ordinance states that “no interment service shall be carried out anywhere within territorial jurisdiction without securing burial permit from the Office of the Treasurer. And that no street, road or thoroughfare or any public space will be used for wake or vigil without prior permit issued by the Office of the Mayor.”

If they get the permit, the use will be from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. only and that those concerned are not supposed to occupy beyond the centerline of the street from the residence where the wake is being held.

Rule also applies to funeral marches. These should occupy only half of the road or street or should not go beyond the centerline.

Designated fees will also be collected like P50 for death registration, P100 for death certificate, and P200 for late death registration. For burial permit, it will be P500 for non-resident and P50 for resident.

Lots in the cemetery that measure 20 square meters shall be leased in the amount of P700 for three years or P240 per month. If renters fail to pay for five consecutive years, such will constitute the removal of the remains.  — Garry B. Lao/MEEV
