Clark Water keeps water losses at 5%

Jasper Emmanuel Arcalas - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines —  Clark Water, a subsidiary of Manila Water Co. Inc., said it has maintained its non-revenue water (NRW), which refers to water produced but unbilled, at five percent in the first five months of the year.

The sole provider of water and wastewater services for the Clark Freeport Zone (CFZ) said its NRW averaged 4.88 percent from January to May, reducing water losses and increasing water availability to its customers.

Clark Water noted that the World Bank recommends that NRW must be kept below 25 percent of all water produced by a water supply provider.

“Achieving and maintaining a five percent non-revenue water rate is more than an operational success – it’s a promise kept to our customers. It reflects our commitment to delivering every drop with integrity, efficiency and care,” Lyn Zamora, general manager of Clark Water, said.

“These initiatives reflect Clark Water’s unwavering commitment to sustainable water resource management and its proactive stance in addressing water loss challenges within CFZ,” Zamora added.

The low NRW level was attributed to implementation of key infrastructure upgrades in partnership with the Clark Development Corp. as well as its locators and other stakeholders such a Clark International Airport Corp. and the Department of Transportation, according to Clark Water.

The upgrades enabled the water utility firm to respond faster and resolve water leaks while integrating its initiatives into its broader water security and sustainability strategies.

Clark Water said it also optimized its water supply operations to meet the demand patterns of its customers. The approach, the company said, ensured efficient energy use while managing system pressure to reduce stress on its pipes and even minimize possible leakages.
