Group welcomes ratification of ILO C190

MANILA, Philippines — Employers and trade unions welcomed the decision of the Senate last December to ratify a convention emphasizing the importance of safety and security of Filipino workers.
The Leaders Forum, in a statement, also commended the Marcos administration for endorsing the International Labor Organization’s Convention 190 (C190) last Oct. 13, 2023.
“C190 is an important pillar to support initiatives aimed at addressing violence and harassment in the world of work. Its scope – from the workplace to the home and everything in between – promises comprehensive social protection for working people, especially women,” the Leaders Forum said.
The ILO C190 took effect in June 2021 and has been ratified by 36 countries.
“It is clear to all social partners that safety and security are fundamental requirements for productive work. It is therefore in the interest of all stakeholders that workers are guaranteed protection from all forms of violence – gendered, physical, sexual, emotional, and psychological,” it added.
The group said C190 is a common victory for all and stands to benefit workers and businesses throughout the country.
It also emphasized that everyone deserves decent employment, social protection, and a social environment that fully recognizes their rights.
