MANILA, Philippines — Basic Energy Corp. and A Brown Co. Inc. have bagged wind service contracts from the Department of Energy.

The DOE approved wind energy service contract (WESC) for Basic Energy’s prospective Ilocos nearshore wind power project.

Under the service contract, the company has been awarded by the DOE to have an exclusive right to explore, develop, and utilize the wind energy resources in the 5,502.54 hectares contracted area in Pasuquin, Ilocos Norte.

“With the effectivity of the said contract, the company will now initiate the deployment of its resources for the wind resource assessment campaign to validate wind regime in the said area,” Basic Energy said.

The company expects the project to generate and deliver power to the grid ranging from 90 to 112 megawatts (MW) based on a simulation done by a foreign third-party consultant.

Basic Energy said the Ilocos Norte WESC serves as the latest addition to its growing portfolio of wind projects which the company looks forward to developing.

The company earlier said it was allocating P6.35 million for the  exploration of  prospective areas for wind power development.

Basic Energy has several areas of interest for possible wind power development, in line with its thrust to search and develop other power plant projects, particularly solar and wind.

Meanwhile, A Brown subsidiary Hydro Link Projects Corp. (HLPC) has also been awarded by the DOE WESCs for the Bukidnon wind power project and the Misor wind power project.

HLPC was granted  the exclusive right to explore, develop, and utilize the wind energy resources within the applied contract areas.

The company has been duly registered as a renewable energy developer of the Bukidnon wind power project located in Malaybalay City, Cabanglasan and San Fernando, Bukidnon, and of the Misor wind power project situated in Balingoan, Claveria, Salay, Sugbongcogon, Kinoguitan, Talisayan, and Medina, Misamis Oriental.

“With the award of the service contract, HLPC will proceed with pre-development activities and studies to ascertain the feasibility of the applied areas,” A Brown said.
