BOI taps Adamson University to build competitive labor force

Louella Desiderio - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — The Board of Investments (BOI) has partnered with Adamson University (AdU) to undertake activities to develop a workforce equipped with skills required by industries.

In a statement, the BOI said a memorandum of understanding (MOU) was signed by Trade Undersecretary and BOI managing head Ceferino Rodolfo and AdU president Fr. Marcelo Manimtim last March 29.

Under the partnership, the parties will work together to ensure that research and development (R&D) activities are in line with the needs of local industries.

The partnership also seeks to strengthen links between the academe and industry to develop a competitive labor force.

The MOU covers the following areas of cooperation: technology pitching, reverse technology pitching, R&D consultations, and capacity-building activities for both the academic staff and students.

BOI and AdU’s partnership is an offshoot of the agency’s academe-industry matching activity in October last year which involved discussions between two foreign companies and 17 academic institutions on placement/recruitment, on-the-job training and possible industrial collaboration to enable students to become aware of industry trends and future work skills requirements.

“This collaboration will help our faculty and students understand the different industries – their needs and challenges – and possibly adapt to the future skills requirements, as well as close the gaps in the industry value chains to achieve our shared objectives of industry development for quality employment of our graduates,” Rodolfo said.

He added the partnership would enable the use of expertise in providing solutions to industry problems.

He also said AdU’s flagship program on engineering is aligned with BOI’s goals on industry development, specifically on reducing the skills mismatch in the country and utilizing technology to solve industry problems.
