Iris Gonzales - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — Olivia Yanson, matriarch of Bacolod-based Yanson Group of Bus Companies sees a better transport business this year.

“Establishments or activities shall be allowed to operate in a more relaxed atmosphere. We are confident that   workers of  establishments and business sectors are fully vaccinated against COVID in the months to come. This situation will then translate to better mobility of people which translates to increased public transport needs,” Yanson said in a statement.

The Yansons are currently divided over control of their family-owned Vallacar Transit Inc. (VTI) and its sister bus companies. One group called the Yanson 4 faction includes siblings Emily, Roy, Celina and Ricardo Yanson Jr.

The other Yanson faction consists of Olivia and siblings Leo and Ginnette.

The Olivia-led faction recently held an annual stockholders meeting for Southern Star Bus Transport Inc. (SSBTI), one of the companies in the bus conglomerate, last Jan. 17.

Re-elected as directors were Olivia and Yanson siblings Leo and Ginnette. Also re-elected as directors were Charles Dumancas and Arvin John Villaruel, according to the statement sent by the Olivia-led faction.

Following the election of the directors, the board held an organizational meeting wherein Leo was re-appointed as chairman of the board and president of SSBTI while Olivia was re-appointed as SSBTI’s corporate secretary and treasurer.

The Olivia-led faction  said that on Jan. 15 and 16, Olivia and Leo Rey also led the election of directors and officers in sister companies Mindanao Star Bus Transport Inc.  and Bachelor Express Inc.

Prior to this Olivia and Leo spearheaded the election of directors and officers in Vallacar Transit Inc.  and Ceres Liner Travel and Tours Inc.
