Vivant bags Cebu district bulk water contract

Iris Gonzales - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — Vivant Corp., the power generation company of Garcia-Escaño family, has bagged a 25-year bulk water supply contract from the Metropolitan Cebu Water District (MCWD).

In a disclosure yesterday, Vivant said MCWD has notified the company’s wholly-owned subsidiary, Vivant Hydrocore Holdings Inc. (VHHI) of the award following a successful bid for the Cordova bulk water supply project.

VHHI holds the Vivant group’s water infrastructure investment portfolio.

The project is a solicited proposal with VHHI as the private sector proponent and Watermatic Philippines Corp. (WMP) as its technical partner.

Under the plan, VHHI will build a utility scale desalination plant that will augment the limited bulk water supply of MCWD by 20,000 cubic meters per day of treated and potable water.

VHHI submitted a solicited proposal for the Cordova bulk water supply project in response to an invitation to bid published by MCWD on Sept. 25, 2020.

“VHHI commits to provide an efficient and reasonably priced solution that will help improve MCWD’s water supply,” it said.

The Cordova desalination project is aligned with Vivant’s mission to provide forward-looking and adaptable solutions to improve everyday living in Metro Cebu. It is the Vivant Group’s contribution to MCWD’s efforts to find an integrated solution to Metro Cebu’s water needs.

The Vivant Group will sign a joint venture agreement with MCWD to govern the relationship of the parties as joint venture partners.

The investment in bulk water supply is a key milestone for the Vivant group to deliver on its promise to provide forward-looking and adaptable solutions for its communities.

“Water is not only essential to Metro Cebu’s economy, but is also vital to the health and overall well-being of the community, particularly amid our collective efforts to manage the spread of the COVID-19 virus,” Vivant said.
