Yondu eyes higher revenues, expansion

Richmond Mercurio - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — Technology company Yondu Inc. is bullish on its growth prospects with the return of Ayala-led Globe Telecom Inc. as its sole owner.

Joan Peñaflorida, Yondu president, said the company is targeting a 25 percent year-on-year increase in revenue to P940 million this year.

“Driver this year is mainly around technology and services. Growth is coming from managed services and products we offer as service to customers,” Peñaflorida said.

By next year, the company is hoping to breach the P1 billion revenue mark.

It also eyes to expand its services and have more dominance in the Philippine market by 2020.

Also in its radar is a potential regional expansion through outsourcing, offshoring, or putting its products in other markets.

“In terms of expansion, part of our plan is really to go regional. We feel we are ready and capable so we are also planning to go regional. We’re looking at helping other countries outside the Philippines as well. There are a lot of projects out there, like Japan for example, we get a lot of inquiries from there,” Yondu head of talent solutions Gail Ocampo said.

Two weeks ago, Globe announced its return as Yondu’s 100 percent owner as it bought back the 51 percent share of Yondu from Xurpas.

Yondu was acquired by Globe in 2008, and the latter sold its 51 stake in the tech company to Xurpas in 2015.

“We have been very autonomous in operations even before. But for this time around, we will be bigger now because we are partnering with their ICT initiatives. Both our strengths, Globe and Yondu, will collaborate in a lot of projects moving forward,” Peñaflorida said.

Yondu was a leading content developer and provider of mobile value-added services, and information technology services back in 2015 when it was acquired by Xurpas.

It has since then evolved to become a top IT solutions company in the Philippines, expanding its product portfolio to provide managed services, software development and turnkey solutions, among others.
