MANILA, Philippines — Two prominent members of the country’s’ private and public sectors are joining a world-class community of global leaders who will be participating at the Bloomberg New Economy Forum to be held in Beijing in November.

Tycoon Tessie Sy-Coson of the SM Group is representing the private sector, while Finance Secretary Carlos Dominguez will attend on behalf on the Duterte administration. The forum will run from Nov. 20 to 22.

Bloomberg Media chief executive officer Justin Smith said prominent members of the global community would join the forum to discuss the global economy and emerging trends in the years to come.

“We are assembling a world-class community of global leaders from new economy nations, including the most influential titans in business and finance from China, India, Africa, Latin America and the Middle East,” said Justin Smith, chief executive officer of Bloomberg Media.

“This unique community has a common vision: to apply their expertise and perspective to tackle the world’s most critical challenges, deliver concrete solutions and build a pathway to progress,” Smith said.

Launched in 2018 by Bloomberg founder Michael Bloomberg, the New Economy Forum was “founded on the belief that the global economy stands on the threshold of immense opportunity, powered by China, India and other rising countries, as well as emerging technologies like 5G networks and artificial intelligence,” the media company said in a statement.

The new economy has also created numerous challenges which the forum hopes to tackle, Bloomberg said.

Speakers and participants in the 2019 New Economy Forum include Bloomberg founder and chief executive officer Michael  Bloomberg, former US Secretary of State and National Security Advisor Henry Kissinger, former US Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson Jr., Mastercard president Ajay Banga, CITIC Group chairman Chang Zhenming, The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation co-chair Bill Gates, HSBC Group chief executive officer Noel Quinn, 3M chairman Mike Roman, and former Australian prime minister Kevin Rudd.

Bloomberg also welcomes new advisory board members for the 2019 forum, including Sy-Coson, vice chairman of SM Investments Corp. and Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, former minister of finance of Nigeria.

The advisory board is comprised of more than 50 of the world’s most influential government and business leaders.
