MANILA, Philippines — Tycoon Manuel V. Pangilinan announced yesterday the appointment of Manila Electric Co. senior vice president for customer retail services group Al Panlilio as chief revenue officer of PLDT Inc.

Pangilinan said Panlilio’s appointment would take effect July 1.

Panlilio takes over the post from Ernesto Alberto who will step down from his post as PLDT and Smart CRO effective June 30.

“We would like to thank Eric for his 16 long years of service and loyalty. Under his watch, PLDT Enterprise rose to become the leading force that it is in the market today,” Pangilinan said.

Pangilinan also noted that Alberto, as CRO for PLDT and Smart, led the team that turned around the Consumer Wireless business while sustaining the robust double digit growth of both Home and Enterprise.

“Moving forward, I have ongoing discussions with Eric regarding opportunities that he may pursue with the First Pacific Group,” he said.

Pangilinan welcomed Panlilio, who was previously with the PLDT Group before joining Meralco.

“I would like to welcome back Al and call on everyone in PLDT and Smart to provide him with all the needed support, and, to continue working closely together to pursue the digital transformation of our business and to provide the best possible service to our customers and the public,” Pangilinan said.

When sought for comment, Panlilio said “it’s a business requirement.”

Pangilinan, meanwhile, said there are no changes at the management level which reports directly to the CRO.

“Al will be supported by the existing strong management teams of the Consumer, Enterprise and International Business Groups,” Pangilinan said.

Panlilio first joined PLDT as senior vice president for the Corporate Business Group  in 1999. He was later tasked to head PLDT’s Carrier Business Group which handled domestic and international carrier requirements.

He joined the power utility firm in 2010. In Meralco, Panlilio was responsible for P300 billion worth of revenues, inclusive of P62 billion of distribution revenues, and led a 1,700-strong workforce.

Panlilio spearheaded Meralco’s strategic shift toward digitalization and pushed innovations in customer service practices and processes.

Meawnhile, the MVP Group is expected to announce soon a CEO for  Metropac Movers Inc. (MMI), the MVP Group’s newest business.

Metro Pacific Investments Corp. president and chief executive officer  Jose Ma. K. Lim has recently been appointed OIC of MMI but he told The STAR this was only temporary.
