MRC Allied to power up 2 North Luzon rice mills

MANILA, Philippines — MRC Allied Inc. has formalized a deal with local firm Edward Marcs Philippines Inc. to power up two rice milling plants in North Luzon using solar power.

In a disclosure yesterday, MRC said it entered into a memorandum of agreement (MOA) with EMPI for the design, supply, delivery, construction and commissioning of its 550-kilowatt-peak (kwp) grid-tied solar PV rooftop project for two rice milling plants located in the Northern Luzon.

MRC expects to complete the installation of the agreed target capacity within 180 days from the issuance of a notice to proceed (NTP),” it said.

Under the MOA, MRC will be the project developer and owner of the solar facility while a private entity, owning and operating two milling plants, will be the power off-taker.

The project construction cost is expected to reach P34 million with target completion by May 2019, MRC president and CEO Augusto Cosio Jr. said earlier.

The 550-kwp solar rooftop project is the initial development in its solar PV project pipeline of at least four megawatts (MW), which MRC Allied hopes to complete in the next two years.

Last October, MRC announced major changes in its management which are part of its ongoing reorganization.

MRC’s former president Gladys Nalda is now in charge of the firm’s renewable energy arm, Menlo Renewable Energy Corp.
