Manil Water unit starts Calasiao operations

MANILA, Philippines — Calasiao Water, Manila Water Co. Inc.’s third partnership with a water district in the country, has started the initial delivery of bulk water supply to  Pangasinan.

Calasiao Water District has commenced operations in four of the 24 barangays.

“The completion of the Ambuetel deepwell facility ignites Calasiao Water’s commitment to deliver solutions to the water problem of our customers,” said Calasiao Water operations manager Mabelle Amatorio.

Built in 2010, the restored facility has the capacity to bring 1.75 million liters per day of clean and safe supply that is compliant with the Philippine national standards of drinking water.

The water system consists of a submersible pump, overhead tank, water treatment facility and a 25-kilometer network which can serve existing and future customers of the water district.

Currently, the facility can service about 3,000 households or 15,000 people.

It was in August last year when Manila Water formalized its joint venture agreement with the Calasiao Water District for a 25-year water supply system project.

The public private partnership is set to undertake the development, financing, design,  operation and maintenance of the water facilities within the service areas.

The first years of the joint venture, which is expected to serve more than 95,000 people of 24 barangays, will focus on the rehabilitation of the water district’s existing water system.

Both parties formed a joint venture company where Manila Water owns 90 percent of the outstanding capital stock while the remaining 10 percent is held by Calasiao Water.

In 2015, Manila Water inked a partnership with the Zamboanga City Water District for a water network efficiency improvement project and with the Tagum City Water District for a bulk water source development project.

Manila Water caters to the East Zone which encompasses parts of Makati, Mandaluyong, Pasig, Pateros, San Juan, Taguig, Marikina, most parts of Quezon City, portions of Manila, as well as several towns in Rizal.

It has also assisted and reformed water systems nationwide through its operations in Laguna, Boracay, Clark, Cebu, Davao del Norte and Zamboanga under the Manila Water Philippine Ventures subsidiary.

The company is also present in Vietnam, Indonesia and Myanmar through its subsidiary, Manila Water Asia Pacific.
