Boracay international airport completion eyed in Q3 2018

Louella Desiderio - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - San Miguel Corp., the operator of the Boracay Airport, expects to complete the new international passenger terminal in the third quarter of next year.

SMC president and chief operating officer Ramon Ang said the new passenger terminal is currently being built. “It would be completed, I think, by the third quarter of next year,” he told reporters.

He said the two-story passenger terminal would have 12 air bridges.

The facility would also be able to accommodate six million passengers per year.

In November last year, the Boracay Airport started catering to bigger jet operations with the expansion of the runway.

Ang said the airport could now handle aircraft such as the Airbus 321, 320, 319, as well as Boeing 737.

The expansion of the runway likewise allows the airport to prepare to accommodate international flights from countries such as China, South Korea, Japan, Singapore and Indonesia.

Previously, the airport could only accommodate smaller turbo propeller aircraft.

Ang said the Boracay Airport is also set to have night capability by August.

By having night capability, the airport would be ready for carriers offering evening flights.

The Boracay Airport in Caticlan is one of the gateways serving popular tourist spot Boracay Island.
