Globe, Singtel collaborate to strengthen info security

Louella Desiderio - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Globe Telecom Inc. has tapped Singapore Telecommunications Ltd. (Singtel) to help enhance its information security services and help enterprises fight cybercrime and other related risks.

In a statement, Globe said it entered into a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Singtel through its Information Technology (IT) Enabled Services Group.

Apart from strengthening its information security capabilities, the MOU is seen to expand Globe’s portfolio by offering Trustwave managed security services to enterprises.

Singtel, Asia’s leading communications group, provides a diverse range of services including fixed, mobile, data, internet, television, information communications technology and digital solutions.

It acquired global leading managed security services firm Trustwave earlier this year.

Trustwave will shield enterprises from cybercrime, data theft and other security risks by providing coverage in the following areas: vulnerability assessment, network security, application security and content security, endpoint security and access control and security management.

The partnership is timely as enterprises are utilizing digital technology in their operations, making them vulnerable to security risks.

“We are in the midst of a digital revolution. Cyber security threats have been constantly evolving and we believe that a more proactive stance against attacks is necessary.  Because we recognize that not everyone is capable of implementing a comprehensive solution, the need for Managed Security Services is more apparent,” Gil Genio, chief technology and information officer and chief strategy officer at Globe said.

He added most chief information officers and chief technology officers have also been raising security as among firms’ major concerns.

Bill Chang, chief executive officer for Group Enterprise at Singtel, said as the frequency and sophistication of cyber attacks and breaches increase across all industries, it becomes more important for businesses to stay ahead of such threats.

“This partnership leverages Globe’s intimate understanding of the local landscape, Singtel’s expertise in providing managed services, and Trustwave’s experience in delivering enterprise-grade managed security services. Together, we will help Philippine companies protect their assets and customers in order to safeguard their reputation against cybercrime,” he said.

More than providing telecommunication services, Globe also aims to provide other offerings to cater to the customers’ need for connectivity and digital solutions.
