MANILA, Philippines - Executives from the Aboitiz Group of Companies gathered at a summit, sharing their knowledge, experience and philosophies to the country’s future leaders.

Speaking before around 90 Filipino student leaders at the 10th Aboitiz Future Leaders Business Summit (AFLBS) in Cebu City, Aboitiz Equity Ventures president and CEO Erramon I. Aboitiz urged them to make choices that will mold the leaders they will become in the future.

“Finding a cause greater than yourself today will prepare you for even bigger things in the years ahead. At the end of the summit, I hope you will go back to your schools with a renewed sense of purpose and commitment to find that specific cause of which you want to be a part. This will not only make you a better leader, it will make you a better person,” Aboitiz said.

Tristan Aboitiz, vice president and COO of AEV unit Pilmico Foods said there is a need to influence the youth to become change makers in their respective fields in the society.

“We need young people to take the lead in effecting positive change in our society.” Values and leaders – these are the two key ingredients for success,” he said.

For his part, AEV CFO Manuel R. Lozano told the attendees it’s not only money that would make people wealthy but the positive impact they had on the society and the achievements they have earned.

On its 10th year of building young talented leaders, the AFLBS reaches a significant milestone in preparing and empowering the youth to be change makers in their chosen field of profession, and in society in general.

“In Aboitiz, people are our greatest assets, which means that human resource hold a key role in organization – that of finding the right people to occupy the right positions and motivating them to excel and be the best at what they do,” said Txabi Aboitiz, AEV chief human resources officer.

“We look for people who are driven, energetic and results-oriented, who seek innovative solutions in their day-to-day work. We want people who are passionate about succeeding, and like to excel in everything that they do,” Aboitiz added.

AFLBS began in 2006 as a gathering of Cebu’s brightest student leaders with the objective to prepare them for the corporate world.

But the summit has been expanded to include college students from Visayas and Mindanao.

Participants include working scholars, varsity athletes, honor students and organization leaders.

The summit talks about leadership and management concepts and shows how these are concretized in a corporate environment, giving opportunities for student delegates to interact, network and establish ties with executives of the Aboitiz group.
