On sabbatical leave

BIZLINKS - Rey Gamboa -

I am away for my annual sabbatical leave. My commentaries on issues of the day will resume 11th June, 2010.

2010 Philippine Collegiate Championship Games

Included in the search for the best collegiate teams in the country are 150 teams belonging to 20 provincial leagues. Twenty champions from these provincial “mother leagues” will compete for the four regional champions’ slots. Regional champions advance to the Zonal Qualifying Games to earn seats in the Sweet 16 Finals of the 2010 Philippine Collegiate Championship games.

Here’s what to expect in the regionals this year:

North/Central Luzon Regional Championship (2009 Champion – Lyceum of Subic Bay Bay Sharks):

The “mother leagues” included in this tournament are SCUAA (Vigan), BEAL (Baguio), PRISAA Pangasinan and UCLAA (Pampanga). The champion teams of these leagues will compete for the North/Central Luzon Regional Championship, with the winning team advancing to the next stage of competition, the Luzon-Metro Manila Qualifying Zonal games.

South Luzon-Bicol Region Regional Championship (2009 Champion – University of Nueva Caceres Greyhounds):

The five “mother leagues” participating are Naga Inter-Collegiate, Quezon Inter-Collegiate, Legaspi Mayor’s Cup, Sorsogon Inter-school and Tabaco Inter-Collegiate. The champion teams of these leagues will compete for the South Luzon-Bicol Regional Championship, and the winning team will join the Luzon-Metro Manila Qualifying Zonal games.

Visayas (excluding Cebu) Regional Championship (2009 Champion – West Negros University Mustangs):

Six “mother leagues” are participating, namely NOPSCEA, Iloilo AA, Ormoc Inter-school, Leyte USCAA, Dumaguete Inter-school and Bohol Inter-school. The Visayas (excluding Cebu) regional champion will advance to the next level, the VisMin Qualifying Zonal games to be held in Cebu City.

Mindanao Regional Championship (2009 Champion – Holy Trinity College Wildcats):

The five “mother leagues” in this area are: COSAA, Davao Inter-collegiate, Gen. Santos Inter-collegiate, FBZ Inter-school (Zamboanga City) and Zamboanga-Sibugay Inter-schools. The Mindanao regional champion will advance to the VisMin Qualifying Zonal games in Cebu City.
