NAIA Customs unit exceeds collection target
April 27, 2001 | 12:00am
Dr. Edna V. Garcia, chief of the Formal Entry Division of the Bureau of Customs assigned at the NAIA, reported to Customs Commissioner Titus B. Villanueva through District Collector Celso Templo and Special Deputy Collector Olivia Lumba that the total cash collection of the ICT-PSI-Formal Entry Division amounted to P209,439,159 against the previous quota of P72,120,000 resulting in a 197 percent in revenue collection for the period March 28 to April 10, 2001.
Despite the Holy Week drop of foreign importations caused by the fluctuating peso dollar exchange rate, the Formal Entry Division of the Bureau of Customs-NAIA still surpassed and exceeded the target quota based on the previous year.
In accordance with the policy of the Arroyo administration that espouses justice, fairness and equity in consonance with professionalism in the Civil Service, the division requested for the list of the 100 top corporations which are considered in the "Super Green Lane" that will serve as their guideline for intensive tax collection.
Inspired by the appointment of Villanueva, a career professional CPA-laywer, the employees believe he will uplift their lives and welfare by granting them promotions, recognitions and awards for a better Bureau of Customs. Garcia attributed the tremendous increase to the Customs examiners and appraisers who had worked with the ideals of professionalism and transparency by applying scientific and quality management strategies primarily founded on working organizational structures which streamline the process of collecting customs duties and taxes for the government.
