Governor Aumentado lauds PMI for blazing the trail in Bohol boxing

CEBU, Philippines — Bohol Governor Erico Aristotle “Aris” Aumentado heaped praises on

PMI Bohol Boxing Stable under the stewardship of Atty. Froriezyl Echavez Podot for its relentless and dedicated efforts in putting the province on the world boxing map.

In the past five years, PMI has regularly hosted bigtime events, giving the Boholano ring talents as well as fighters from the Visayas and Mindanao a platform to showcase their skills on the big stage.

And the best is yet to come.

A week from now, PMI will roll out what is by far the biggest boxing show in Bohol history.

One world title eliminator and three regional championships involving four nations will be featured in the surefire blockbuster “Kumong Bol-anon XXVI” on September 12 at the Bohol Wisdom School (BWS) Gymnasium in Tagbilaran City.

“The Provincial Government is a proud partner of the PMI Bohol Boxing Stable in the holding of the Kumong Bol-anon XXVI. We commend PMI Boxing Stable for its consistent investments in boxing and for raising the bar of boxing as a professional sport in Bohol,” Aumentado said in a statement.

“Since 2023, the Provincial Government and the PMI Bohol Boxing Stable, under the able leadership of Atty. Floriezyl Podot, are leading the way in the advancement of sports tourism in Bohol and in rallying the power of sports as a development and economic platform,” Aumentado added.

“By holding the Kumong Bol-anon XXVI, we are setting the stage to showcase Bohol’s athletic prowess to the world while driving economic growth, boosting local pride, and developing grassroots champions.”

Aumentado said they are truly happy and proud that PMI Boxing is making history once again with its upcoming card top-billed by Bohol’s pride Regie “Filipino Phenom” Suganob, who will figure in an expected grudge rematch with former two-time world champion Sivenathi “Special One” Nontshinga of South Africa in an International Boxing Federation (IBF) light flyweight elimination bout.

On the undercards, Reymart “Cebuano Assassin” Tagacanao will take on China’s Chinlin Kuwang for the IBF Asia junior bantamweight belt while Leonard “The Dreamer” Pores III and Datu Adam will face Indonesia’s Andika Fredrikson “D’ Golden Boy” Ha’e and Oky Akbar for the IBF Pan Pacific flyweight and IBF

Asia junior featherweight crown, respectively.

“It is a strong demonstration of PMI Bohol Boxing Stable’s rising domination not only at the local and national boxing arena, but also at the global stage,” said Aumentado. “It presents many opportunities for us to showcase Bohol’s beautiful and unique landscapes as a UNESCO Global Geopark Island, the warm hospitality of our people, our strong partnerships and sports governance, and our people’s love for sports, especially boxing.”

Looking ahead, Aumentado assured PMI of the government’s full support in its future endeavors.
