19TH Press Freedom

Si Fr. Ramon Echica Jr. sa Seminario Mayor de San Carlos, nga maoy ni- officiate sa Misa, mipadayag og tulo ka punto atol sa iyang wali nga iyang gi-relate sa mga propesyon sa mga journalists ug media practitioners.

Unang punto niya mao ang “retrieval of the lost values” diin iyang gipasabot nga ang mga journalists adunay role sa pagpakita sa mga tawo sa mga wala nila makit-i. Iya dayong gisugdan sa pangutana nga “what is it that we as a nation are losing, and which we need to retrieve?” “The events in the past few weeks have shown that many of our legislators have lost the sense of what is right and wrong and consequently many citizens have lost their trust in them, if not their trust in the whole political system,” matud ni Echica.

“Come to think of it, what is lost in the pork barrel may just be a tiny fraction in relation to the national budget. But still, that tiny fraction is too big for us to imagine,” matud ni Echica. When we are confident that people listen to us or read what we write, we take the pretensions that we know everything. There is the implicit claim of expertise in every field of knowledge, be it law, economics, natural science or even theology.  But real wisdom knows how to admit ignorance,” pasabot niya.
