Enjoy picturesque views of Malaysian countryside via cycling

MANILA, Philippines - As cycling continues to gain more popularity not just in Malaysia but worldwide, Tourism Malaysia is proud to have created special cycling packages, dividing it into three routes — the green route, which is suitable for beginners, families, and leisure cyclists; the blue route for intermediate to hardcore cyclists; and the orange route which targets hardcore and more adventurous cyclists.

As such, Tourism Malaysia is also excited to promote various events that support the growing cycling community like the Le Tour de Langkawi, KL Mountain Bike Carnival, Century Ride Malaysia, Kayuhan Merdeka Sempena, Cuti Cuti 1Malaysia Sunday Bike Ride @ Raub, Langkawi International Mountain Bike Challenge, and OCBC Cycle Malaysia.

In addition to these, there are also the state-organized cycling events such as Pahang Bike Ride, Discover Perak Bike Ride, and Kuching Bike Ride.

Malaysia’s lush tropical jungles and recreational forests provide not just scenic routes but also plenty of challenges for those who enjoy cycling as a sport.

Tourists will be thrilled to know that aside from an enriching nature excursion, going around Malaysia’s countryside by bike also lets them engage in a better cultural immersion through heritage trails like in Penang and Serawak.

Places like Kinabalu Park are also great for highland cycling, something that would truly test their endurance and cycling skills.

In its quest to promote world peace, Malaysian cycling group KBRB recently brought its successful cycling tour to the Philippines. C Thevedran, KBRB president, led the way in educating more people about their group’s special mission.

Thevedran said, “We want to develop a peaceful relationship among Malaysians and Filipinos; that’s the important thing for us.”

He was grateful for all the support that they have received for this special program, which has reached other Asian countries like Thailand, Singapore and Cambodia. They are also scheduled to bring the cycling tour to Indonesia, Brunei and Vietnam before holding the culminating activity for at least the region, which is the 1Malaysia Peace World Cycling Tour in Malaysia.

“All the participants will come together in this activity, each serving as a representative of their respective countries,” he said.

For the cycling tour, Thevedran chose Tagaytay City and from there the group, comprised of 15 Malaysian cyclists, eight Malaysian journalists, and 30 Filipino cyclists, made the journey to the Malaysian embassy in Makati City, where they were greeted by Malaysian Ambassador Dato’ Mohd Zamri Bin Mohd Kassim, the embassy staff and representatives of Tourism Malaysia in the Philippines headed by Mohd Akbal Setia.
