10 reasons to love Delta’s heavenly bed

Millet M. Mananquil - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Now who was it who said that we go on a trip because we are tired... and then, we come back exhausted.

Two weeks ago, I left tired and sleepless for New York, one of my favorite cities in the world. And when I came home, I felt I just experienced heaven in the sky.

It was comfortable, it was relaxing, it was delicious, it was productive. I am talking about my flight on Delta Air Lines’  BusinessElite from Manila to New York via Narita .

There are too many reasons why I loved this journey via Delta Air Lines' BusinessElite. Here are my top 10 :

1. It's like sleeping on a comfy bed. Delta has flat beds — yes, flat — with a full 180-degree recline and direct aisle access. No more bad back problems after a long trip.

2. Westin Heavenly bedding provided by Westin Hotels & Resorts. This includes an oversized plush white (yes, I love white!) comforter and hypoallergenic, down-alternative pillow.

3. Fine dining with modern china, cutlery and well-starched linens. How can a dining experience be divine when you are using plastic utensils?

4. Really good food created by celebrity chef Michelle Bernstein and distinguished Napa Valley restaurateur Michael Chiarello, with wines selected by Delta's master sommelir Andrea Robinson. It's food that doesn't taste  or smell like airline food!

5. Hundreds of movies, TV programs and HBO features to choose from! I got to see films which I had missed seeing in Manila, like Change-Up starring Ryan Reynolds, and all the Audrey Hepburn classics I’ve always wanted to see but never found the time. Finally, I also saw the Inside the The Actors Studio's interview by James Lipton with one of its most distinguished alumni, Bradley Cooper. (Trivia: Did you know that Bradley graduated with honors with a BA in English degree at Georgetown University? He opted to take an MFA in acting at the Actors Studio Drama School of Pace University.)

6. PC power and a state-of-the-art entertainment system with video games.

7. In-flight Wi-Fi! Delta operates the world's largest fleet of Wi-Fi-enabled aircraft with in-flight Internet access. Passengers can experience speeds in the air similar to the mobile broadband experiences on ground.

8. Electric power is available on internatinal flights. And by the way, also in the first 10 rows of economy cabin.

9. No miles expiration! I love the fact that Delta's SkyMiles program  is the only frequent flyer program in which the miles do not expire. You can redeem miles for Award Travel on 24 partner airlines. You can also use your points for upgrades, Sky Club memberships, merchandise and unique auction experiences.

10. Delta's Sky Clubs, named “Best Airport Lounges,” offer beverages and snacks, a work zone with Wi-Fi, cyber counters with power outlets, desktop computers, wireless printers and charging stations. I was able to monitor office work while waiting for my flight.
