Underdog Mosley out to defy Vegas odds

- Abac Cordero -

HOLLYWOOD – Shane Mosley thinks he’s better, than what the fight odds would suggest.

A 7-to-1 underdog, the former three-division world champion is out to prove the oddsmakers wrong when he climbs the ring against Manny Pacquiao on May 7.

In two weeks, Mosley should start gearing up for the fight, set before an expected sellout crowd at the MGM Grand. He said he will train eight weeks at Big Bear in California.

Mosley also expects the odds or the oddsmakers to get a little bit kinder to him.

“It should be somewhere near even,” said Mosley, who was seen limping a bit, favoring one leg, during last week’s press tour that covered four key cities in just six days.

He said it’s nothing.

But it should be his age, that he’ll be turning 40 in September, that pushed him down the betting lines, or the fact that he had a loss and a draw in his last two fights.

Or that he hadn’t fought in eight months.

Pacquiao, on the other hand, is reaching the peak of his career, had gone undefeated for more than five years and had knocked out much bigger guys in his most recent fights.

Still, Mosley thinks he has what it takes to win it all.

As of yesterday, he was a +425 underdog and Pacquiao a -625 favorite, meaning you need $625 to win a hundred bucks. For Mosley, $100 wins $425.

“But I’m not a betting man. I don’t like to bet,” he said.

“I’m going to make sure I won’t be in the losing end of that stick,” he added.
