Eagles eye 9th straight vs Bulldogs

4 p.m. – NU vs AdMU

MANILA, Philippines — They have crushed all of their opponents with murderous efficiency but the high-flying Ateneo Blue Eagles refuse to get carried away by their lofty standing as they try to move closer to their first objective in UAAP Season 80 men’s basketball tourney.

Unbeaten in their first eight matches, the Eagles gun for win No. 9 and at least a playoff for a Final Four berth today at MOA Arena against a National U side (3-5) that’s aching to score a massive reversal to boost its own semis agenda.

“We’re not really looking at our record right now. What’s we’ve been emphasizing and what coach Tab (Baldwin) wants is to focus on the next game, the current game, and not our record or standing,” said AdMU assistant coach Sandy Arespacochaga

The AdMU players are all on board with this.

“It’s a new round, hindi pwedeng same lang yung preparation namin ginawa nung first round, lahat ng teams nakapag-adjust na (we can’t simply repeat what we did in the first round as all the teams have already made adjustments). We still have to work hard, we can’t be complacent,” said Thirdy Ravena.

“We can’t afford to think we’re 8-0; you have to have the next-game mentality, prepare, and not be complacent,” he added.
