Lions, Lady Blazers rule NCAA 93 taekwondo

MANILA, Philippines – San Beda claimed the men’s title while College of St. Benilde the women’s crown at the end of the 93rd NCAA taekwondo competition at the Letran Gym Monday.

Abram Lance Cuvinar clinched the heavyweight gold medal and the Most Valuable Player trophy to spearhead the Dexter John Rico-mentored Red Jins to their 10th championship after garnering 91 points overall.

The Knights finished second with 64 points while the Blazers wound up third with 52 points.

While San Beda, led by MVP flyweight Noelyn Rose Campos, was dominating, CSB needed to outpoint Lyceum of the Philippines University by a mere four-point margin to snare its third consecutive title.

The Lady Blazers, who were mentored by former Olympian Robert “Kitoy” Cruz, had 76 points while the Lady Pirates 72.

Arellano had 66 to end up at No. 3.

In juniors’ action, Arellano U ran away with the crown by amassing a whopping 131 points, leaving San Beda way behind at second with 71 while San Sebastian finished third with 48 points.

Meanwhile, St. Benilde’s Tristan Cayago and Perpetual Help’s Abigail Pacificador copped the men’s and women’s poomsae golds while the Blazers swept the golds in the team events.
