Fernando pulls off rare double
MANILA, Philippines – Masato Fernando posted a rare major double as he won the overall championship in the FDR Philippine Scooter and FDR Underbone King Championship Series at the Batangas Racing Circuit recently.
Fernando outmaneuvered buddy and reigning scooter champion John Emerson Inguito in a duel in the rain midway in the final lap then surged ahead at the finish to clinch the victory before a roaring crowd.
In the FDR Scooter series, Fernando completed the four-lap race in 8:02.952, 0.027 of a second ahead of Inguito to capture the 180cc PSR plum.
Cassey Ng placed third with Tracy Soyangco and Aljon Valencia fourth and fifth, respectively.
Fernando also dominated the FDR Underbone Series, winning the premier 150cc Open title by 1.351 seconds over Inguito to complete a rare feat.
Niel Jan Centeno took the 160cc PSR title over John Edward Godoy and McKinley Kyle Paz while Amber Torres beat Evander Soliveres to snare the 130cc PSR plum.
