Blatche brings act to China

Joey Villar, Nelson Beltran - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - With no immediate taker from the NBA, Filipino naturalized player Andray Blatche has decided to bring his skills and talent over to the Chinese Basketball Association.

According to online reports, the 6-foot-11 former Brooklyn Net signed up a one-year contract with the Xinjiang Guanghui Flying Tigers worth $2.5 million.

At Xinjiang, Blatche will team up with another former NBA player Jordan Crawford as they try to bring the team all the way to the championship after a losing finals stint versus the Beijing Ducks last season.

Crawford, the 2010 NBA draft No. 27 pick, last played for the Golden State Warriors following stints with the Atlanta Hawks, the Washington Wizards and the Boston Celtics.

It wasn’t surprising that Blatche gained the attention of China following his impressive showing with Gilas Pilipinas in the recent world championship in Spain.

Blatche led all players on efficiency rating with whopping averages of 21.2 points and 13.8 rebounds.

He’s out of the Gilas roster for the ongoing 17th Asian Games as he’s declared ineligible by the games organizer for not satisfying the supposed three-year residency rule.

He’s also out of the NBA loop at the moment but is expected to be back by playoffs time with the CBA season ending in March.

Last season with Brooklyn, Blatche averaged 11.2 points and 5.3 rebounds in 73 games.
