Perpetual rips DPS in 4 OTs

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - University of Perpetual Help needed four extra periods to finally nail its first win, outsteadying Diliman Preparatory School, 138-125, in the penultimate day of elims in the first Jumbo Plastic Linoleum Cup 2014 at the Enderun Colleges gym in Taguig over the weekend.

JC Angeles sizzled with 30 points, hauled down nine rebounds and dished off six assists as the Altalettes completed their remarkable comeback from 12 points down in the first half to beat DPS and end a six-game losing streak.

Four other Perpetual players scored in double figures with Marvin David and Kirk Gelogo chipping in 27 and 23 points, respectively, in what could go down as one of the longest games ever played in high school basketball history.

Perpetual, however, will face No. 2 Chiang Kai Shek College in the quarters set Saturday.

The CKSC Dragons rolled to their sixth straight win by downing Far Eastern University, 93-89, behind JV Gallego’s 22-point effort. The Dragons dropped a close contest to Ateneo, 71-67, in the opener last month.

The tournament  is sponsored by Smart Telecommunications, K-tech Sports, Inc., Powerbest Marketing, CW Home Depot, Powerhouse and Dickies Underwear.

In the other game, University of the Philippines drew another superb game from Juan de Liano Gomez, Enzo Barraquias and Jaggie Gregorio as it turned back Adamson, 90-85, for its third straight win.

UP finished the elims at No. 4 with a 4-3 card and will meet No. 5 Adamson again in the quarters while No. 3 seed FEU collides with Hope Christian also on Saturday.

Ateneo, which finished with a perfect 7-0 record, along with CKSC, FEU and UP will enjoy twice-to-beat privileges over their respective rivals.
