CINEMALAYA 2014: Mylene Dizon feels 'blessed' with 'Mariquina'

MANILA, Philippines – Mylene Dizon does not mind being a second choice to Judy Ann Santos in the film “Mariquina.”

 

Judy Ann was originally cast to play the lead role in “Mariquina,” one of the entries in the New Breed category of the 10th Cinemalaya Philippine Independent Film Festival.

 

But when Judy Ann pulled out from the film, it was Mylene who was chosen to replace the ABS-CBN actress-TV host.

 

“I really liked the movie and, I think, when the stars don't accept a film, that's when we are blessed,” she said in an interview with entertainment news site Philippine Entertainment Portal. “I'm not the second choice, for sure, but I'm happy to work with them and I really like the script.”

 

In the film, directed by Milo Sogueco, Mylene plays Imelda Guevarra, the daughter of a shoemaker from Marikina. Unlike her iconic namesake, Imelda is indifferent about shoes. But a search for the perfect shoes for her dead father sets her in a journey to self-discovery.

 

“Mariquina” also stars Ricky Davao, Che Ramos, and Barbie Forteza.

 

The 10th Cinemalaya Philippine Independent Film Festival runs from August 1 to 10.
