Irene Martel-Francisco gives back

PERSONAL CHOICE - Frannie Jacinto - The Philippine Star

As Irene Martel Francisco turns into a seniorella, all she wanted to do was to share her blessings. So she enjoined her friends to support the MoveEd Foundation, which provides early education for marginalized pre-school students.

Guests lined up at  the Raffles and Fairmont Ballroom with their donations and participated in the auction featuring artworks by Anita Magsaysay Ho and Kenneth Cobonpue, trips to various exciting destinations, sparkling jewelry designed by Erica Reyes’ Riqueza and JJ Jiao, and other interesting objects that raised more than P2.2 million.

Founded in 2012 by Alexandra Madrigal Eduque, MoveEd’s  goal is to provide quality early education for pre-school students (ages three to six years old)  in the country’s impoverished communities by providing them with the necessary foundation to succeed in school.

With so many marginalized kids barely able to remain in school due to their circumstances, the organization assists families so they can break the cycle of poverty through education, values training, uniforms, school supplies and daily feeding programs that will be a cornerstone to help set them up for life. There are now 680 students in 14 classrooms in the Philippines.

As we congratulated Irene for a successful fundraising evening, she enthused, “I have always believed that giving back is the best and most tangible way to express thanks for one’s blessings. Hosting a fundraiser for my 60th birthday was something I really wanted to do. Its focus is on the cause, a very worthy one that
addresses the future of kids.”
