Gruppo Habagat dominates Puerto Princesa dragonboat

CEBU, Philippines - Gruppo Habagat Paramount paddlers showed what great teamwork, timing and technique can do  after dominating the Puerto Princesa International Club Crew Championship in Palawan over the weekend.

The Gruppo Habagat seized two gold, one silver and two bronze medals. They won the gold medal in both 500m and 200m class of the masters 40+ division.

Gruppo Habagat is composed of Verlind Basira,Dondon Dimpas, Jake Ave, LJ Mendez, John Rey Villaruz, Argy Bermejo, Jimmy Petilo Jr, Brendan Cristobal,Victor Gamao, Joie Nuñez, Sydrec Camus, Carl Antiporda, Michael Azcona, Jey Pe Campana, Alberto Saavedra, Jade Abellana, Grace Ferrer, Lulu Valiente, Nora Rosete, Cora Quiamco, Jean Dalumpines, Eduardo Pangatungan, Dennis Tirado, Dr. Theodore Dimaluan, Zaldy Delgado, Mel Muaña ,Rey Buning, Junie Alesna, Willou Tan, Haide Acuña,Nikki Cuña, Kareen Benavides, Lorelie Casilan, Vange and Stephanie Agbay, Killiaen Ferrer, Eve Mary Robles, Michelle Malicay, Badette Tecling, Alberto Saavedra, Joy Hortizano, Hyra de la Cruz and Czarina Soriano.

Gruppo Habagat outpaced Salt Water Dragons in the 500m category with its 2:18.999 clocking, while the latter registered 2:23:102. Team Pyrus wound up third with 2:24.047.

In the 200m, Gruppo Habagat paddlers were the fastest in 58.219 followed by Pyrus Squad with 59.296. Salt Water Dragons occupied the third place in 59.474.

The Cebuano squad also got  silver medals in the boat mixed 500m and  standard boat mixed battle. (FREEMAN)
