Risa Hontiveros wears Marikina shoes to SONA 2016
MANILA, Philippines — Leaving the designer shoes behind, Senator Risa Hontiveros took a pair of Marikina shoes at the first State of the Nation Address of president Rodrigo Duterte.
Marikina City has established itself as the country’s shoe capital and had been producing unmatched quality of shoes for decades.
On Monday, July 25, the senator attended the SONA wearing a lace dress with a purple wrap courtesy of designer Joel Acebuche, who also made the ethnic inspired ensemble of singer Bayang Barrios.
The color of the wrap represents her women empowerment advocacy. She completed the ultra feminine look with a Marikina-made shoes in response to the plea of local shoemakers to wear their products.
Acebuche has been designing Hontiveros's SONA ensemble for years. In 2013, he designed a purple gown made from T'nalak fabric, woven by the T'boli of Lake Sebu, South Cotabato.
