Make skin glow without looking oily

STYLE S.O.S. - Lucy Torres-Gomez, Rissa Mananquil-Trillo - The Philippine Star

Dear Rissa,

Strobing or highlighting seems to be the big trend. But how do I make it work for oily skin like mine without looking greasy?

Chia

Glowing skin is the newest accessory. The strobing trend puts the spotlight on features you want to brighten with luminescence, but at the same time looks like you have little to no makeup on. Compared to contouring, which makes use of darker, earthier colors to create shadows and give the illusion of a chiseled face, strobing makes use of shimmer to highlight and bring out certain features such as a sharper nose bridge and cheekbones. So, yes, you can also achieve a chiseled face even with strobing.

The best way to prevent looking oily is to avoid the apples of your cheeks or areas which naturally oil up. Otherwise, your oily areas will look very shiny when the light or camera flash hits these areas of the skin. What you can do instead is to focus the strobing on the C-area — the upper area of the cheekbones curving upwards around the eyes. This is a Korean technique that gives a dewy, youthful but chiseled look without looking oily on the cheeks. Lastly, temper the amount of highlighter you use. Oily skin types will tend to have a natural built-in sheen, so it’s best to modify the intensity of strobing for oily skin.

Dare To Bare Your Toned Midriff

Dear Lucy,

I have been working out so my midriff is decently toned, but I still have a pouch in my belly. How do I show off the toned part but still conceal that area that still needs work?

And how do I achieve a spotless, lineless, flawless complexion without lasers (which can be expensive)?

Josie

There are all those adorable crop tops, sleeveless ones, and off-shoulder variety that you can wear with high-waisted bottoms. That is the key. Go for the high waist! It is flattering, it will conceal your pouch, but will show off the toned upper part of your midsection. If you are wearing a fitted dress, you should also invest in good shapewear that will eliminate lines and hold you in. There are many out there to choose from.

For a flawless and young complexion, more and more people are going back to the good old chemical peel. It is a classic treatment that delivers certain skin benefits (especially reversing melasma and breakouts) better than high-tech devices. For a fraction of the cost of lasers, the chemical peel removes dull surface cells, improves fine lines, acne, discoloration and more! Consult your dermatologist to know what your options are. Belo has many options available.
