Fall in love with soft, smooth hair

STYLE S.O.S. - Lucy Torres-Gomez, Rissa Mananquil-Trillo - The Philippine Star

Dear Rissa,

My hair is dry from overstyling and coloring, so I try to make it a habit to condition my hair, but it just ends up becoming lifeless. Is there a proper way to apply conditioner to the hair?                                                                                Steph

Some women complain that a product isn’t nice or it doesn’t work for them, but it actually boils down to how we apply it.

We often pile on conditioner and slather it on our heads. How much should be really be applying? A spoonful is all you really need! Treatment will go where it’s needed. Never apply conditioner on the scalp, otherwise it will make your scalp unnecessarily oily. An oily scalp weighs down hair at the roots, making hair look limp and heavy.

Also never leave on conditioner too long on your head. One minute is enough for busy women, and it helps to use a hardworking product. Cream Silk Daily Treatment Conditioner is my favorite because it doubles as a conditioner and hair treatment. If you have super dry hair, you can even give yourself your own salon hair mask treatment by leaving this on for 15 minutes once a week.

Lastly, never wash hair with hot water after conditioning. It washes off the treatment and that’s just money down the drain. Use cold water to rinse off conditioner.                    Rissa

What To Do With Dull Hair And Nose Hair

Dear lucy,

I have dull hair and nose hair that I cannot stand pulling out as it is too painful! How do I remedy these problems?

Edwina

Product buildup is one of the culprits behind dull hair. Use a clarifying shampoo, and try to rotate your favorite shampoo and conditioner to shake things up a bit. Hair oils are good, too, to promote and enhance shine without the greasy, heavy feel. Be mindful though of proper product application — do not apply directly to the roots unless it is a treatment that you wash off. Your favorite salon should have treatment options available also, targeted at addressing this specific problem.

Regarding nose hair, please, please get yourself a trimmer. Nose hair has no business sticking out, saying hello to the world or to the person you are talking to. Men’s grooming kits have trimmers, but beauty stores sell them, too. Some are manual (basically, they are just tiny scissors with rounded and angled edges) and there are also battery-operated ones. It is a must-have.
