Let’s get physical

- Francis J. Kong - The Philippine Star

Some people cheat themselves in their own bathrooms. How? By lying to their weighing scale.

I came across an article entitled, “How To Lie To The Bathroom Scale”. Read on:

1. Weigh yourself with clothes on, after dinner… as well as in the morning, without clothes on, before breakfast, because it’s nice to see how much weight you’ve lost overnight.

2. Never weigh yourself with wet hair.

3. When weighing, remove everything, including glasses. In this case, blurred vision is an asset. Don’t forget the earrings – these things can weigh at least a pound.

4. Use cheap scales only, never the medical kind, because they are always five pounds off… to your advantage.

5. Always go to the bathroom first.

6. Stand with arms raised, making pressure on the scale lighter.

7. Don’t eat or drink in the morning until after you’ve weighed in, completely naked, of course.

8. Weigh yourself after a haircut. This is good for at least half a pound of hair (hopefully).

9. Exhale with all your might before stepping onto the scale (Air has to weigh something, right?).

10. Start out with just one foot on the scale, then holding on to the towel rack in front of you, slowly edge your other foot on, and slowly let off of the rack. Admittedly, this takes time, but it’s worth it. You will weigh at least two pounds less than if you’d stepped on normally.

The problem with this is that we fool nobody but ourselves.

Go physical. Do exercise. It’s something so simple and important, yet so many people don’t do it. Also, drink enough water every day, get enough sleep (Boy how guilty I am in this area!), and make sure you eat the right kind of food. Maintaining a healthy lifestyle is important!

A group of scientists went up the Mountain Province wanting to know the secret behind the natives’ longevity. When they saw an old man, they approached him and asked him the secret of his long life. The native replied, “No girls, no vice, no alcohol, and no cigarette. Early to bed and early to rise, and plenty of exercise.”

The scientists diligently took down notes. Then they asked him, “How old are you?”

The old man replied, “Ninety-two.”

Next, they saw an older-looking man. They approached him and asked him the same question. The old man replied, “No girls, no vice, no cigarette, and no alcohol. Early to bed and early to rise. Plenty of exercise and no meat; purely vegetables.”

The scientists were all amazed, and so they asked him, “How old are you?” And the older-looking man replied, “One hundred and two!”

And then they saw the oldest-looking man in the place. They approached him carefully and asked him the same question. “Sir,” they asked, “What is the secret of your long life?” The old man looked at them and said, “I have many wives. I never exercise. I smoke 2 packs of cigarettes every day. I drink lots of beer, whiskey and gin. And I never exercise. By the way, I hate vegetables, so I eat only meat.”

“Wow!” The scientists exclaimed. There must be a scientific breakthrough here, they thought. And so they asked the most awaited question: “How old are you, Sir?”

And the man replied, “Thirty-two.”

Whether you like it or not, your lifestyle will have a great bearing on how you look.

Think about this: you sit behind your table practically the whole day, every day; you’re locked in your air-conditioned office almost the whole day, every day; and you ride in your air-conditioned car almost everywhere you go. Then you have business lunches and dinners that sure add more calories to your system. This is not a good way to live life.

Your body is the only one you’ll ever have. Take good care of it. Even the Bible says we should.
