‘100 Paintings by Alfredo and Isabel Aquilizan’ at Ateneo Art Gallery

The Ateneo Art Gallery will showcase its new acquisition, “100 Paintings by Alfredo and Isabel Aquilizan with Antonio Calma,” a gift to the museum by Security Bank Corporation in line with the bank’s 60th anniversary, in a year-long exhibition which opens on May 19 at the Print and Drawing Room, Ateneo Art Gallery, second floor, Rizal Library Special Collections Bldg., Ateneo de Manila University, Katipunan, Ave., Loyola Heights, QC.

The couple’s artistic collaborations explore ideas that range from family ties, to identity and diaspora. Each of the canvases that make up the work is a portion of an enormous landscape painting by Calma that was cut up and framed by the Aquilizans. It’s one of several artistic products from their ongoing “Mabini Art Project,” an exploration into the genre of Mabini Art.
