Remains of 2 Pinoys killed in Hormuz arrive in Philippines
MANILA, Philippines — The remains of two Filipino seafarers who were killed after their vessel was struck by a projectile in the Strait of Hormuz arrived in Manila on Sept. 11, the Department of Migrant Workers said.
The DMW said the Filipino crewmembers were on the Saudi Arabia-flagged tanker M/V SIDR when it was hit on Aug. 31.
DMW officer-in-charge Undersecretary Bernard Olalia and Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) administrator Patricia Yvonne Caunan were among those who received the remains upon arrival at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport.
Representatives from the House committee on overseas workers affairs and the local manning agency also attended the repatriation.
The family of one of the seafarers from Cabuyao, Laguna was also present.
The DMW and OWWA said they would provide assistance to the families of the slain seafarers, including psychosocial counseling, financial aid as well as scholarships and livelihood assistance.
