Zika Outbreak Monitor

Philstar.com

MANILA, Philippines — Zika was just declared a global public health emergency after being linked to brain deformities in babies in South America. Several thousand cases of microcephaly have been reported in Brazil since October, although researchers have so far not proven a definitive link to the virus. No vaccine exists for Zika.

The World Health Organization said the rapidly spreading Zika virus is an "extraordinary event" that poses a threat to the rest of the world. (AP)

Philstar.com tries to track the latest updates on the outbreak from around the world with byte-sized reports as well as measures on its prevention in the Philippines.
