Malaysia helicopter crash kills 6, including ex-envoy to US

Associated Press

KUALA LUMPUR — A helicopter crashed outside Kuala Lumpur on Saturday, killing all six people on board, including a lawmaker who was a former Malaysian ambassador to the United States, officials said.

Preliminary information showed that the helicopter crashed and burst into flames in Semenyih town while flying back from northern Kuantan town, Malaysia's Department of Civil Aviation said.

The bodies of all six people who were aboard the helicopter have been recovered, rescuers said.

Lawmaker Jamaluddin Jarjis, who was Malaysia's ambassador to the U.S. from 2009 to 2012, was among those on board, Home Minister Zahid Hamidi said.

The Star English-language newspaper reported in its online edition that the victims also included an aide to Prime Minister Najib Razak.

Local media said the group was returning from the wedding of Najib's daughter in Kuantan. No further details were immediately available.
