Miss Universe pageant helps Philippine tourism — Singson

MANILA, Philippines —  Miss Universe 2022 pageant helped the Philippines' tourism through half-a-billion dollars worth of media exposure, Richelle Singson-Michael, host committee chairperson 65th Miss Universe, emphasized in an interview with Philstar.com during a pre-event media conference for the recently concluded Miss Universe Philippines 2022 pageant night.

"We're always partners with Miss Universe so we are always looking at the next opportunity, whether it's an event, whether it's an sponsorship. Another one is hosting the Miss Universe pageant again," Michael said in an interview held in her hometown Ilocos Sur.

"It's always about positivity, being confident, women empowerment, plus how much also it helps our tourism industry," she added.

The Miss Universe 2016 pageant held in the Philippines gave a glimpse of Cebu, Bohol, Ilocos, Davao and other Philippine destinations to the world, particularly to half a billion viewers all around the world, said Michael.

"It's also half a billion US dollars worth of exposure for the Philippines, so that was one of the most important prize of hosting the Miss Universe pageant in the country, for the tourism of our country," she said.

There's no word yet on where the next Miss Universe pageant will be held next, but Michael stressed that the Philippines will always partner with Miss Universe in the future. — Photo and video by Deejae Dumlao
